In Europe, when a coin such as the one dollar coin starts to be circulated, they will remove the paper currency. This is so that people don't have a choice between the two. If the United States government will also have to stop giving people a choice between the one dollar coin and the paper note if it wants people to start using the one dollar coin more frequently. If given the choice, people will always prefer the less cumbersome, foldable version of the paper dollar. This will then leave the one dollar coin only to the coin collectors.
